The Great Northern had a major roundhouse and deisel house at Mpls Jct by the Mpls Depot. They also serviced engines here for their major Great Northern University of Minnesota yard at Hwy 280. The GN backshops for rebuilds was at Dale St in St Paul MN near the Jackson St shops. The GN ordered their SD9s withouw dynamic brakes, so that is a way to determine GN or CBQ. The Jackson St Shops in St Paul has an operating SD9. SD9s survived working on the BNSF until 2011. |

The Soo Line had their major yard casled Shoreham in Mpls MN next to the NP Northtown yard. Shoreham is a double curved run through yard with wyes at both ends, and today is an intermodal yard. Shoreham wls a major backshop for the Soo with a transfer table and large roundhouse operation. In the 1960s and 1970s this was a typical consist on large trains on the Soo Line. Here we see a repainted RS3 Alco, an F7, GP9, GP30 and several other units. |
