Description:  The one and only R&S train I ever saw has completed its work at Silver Springs and is now headed back to Rochester. It is passing the signals at CP Silver Springs, and will shortly diverge from the Southern Tier Line. The hand me down power was typical of R&S in that era, and the ex NW unit is giving away its heritage beneath the B&P stenciling.

Description:  The Housatonic RR runs the freight on the ex NH Berkshire line from Danbury up to Pittsfiled Mass. Sam Botts and I caught NX 12 running lite power to Pittsfield to pick up from Conrail. It was quite a ride for them, as there had been a foot of snow the day earlier.

Description:  In its early days of running larger systems than its traditional lines, the Genesee & Wyoming used a lot of hand me down power in patched paint. Here is the train that interchanged with Conrail at Silver Springs with a pair of ex CR units and an ex NW geep, all in original colors. The unified colors would come later. The snow would eventually melt, too!!

Description:  A pair of IMRL units-one an ex NYSW SD45-back into the yard to get their train and head north. I'm standing on the Choteau Trafficway, a great overhead spot to watch the action at the west end of the yard. Note a BNSF coal train in the distance; it will soon be heading south on the KCS. The KCS executive train is also there, top center.

Description:  It was not common that I got to shoot industrial units. Even if I saw them, a lot of plants had rules about photography, and some places even having a camera on the premises could get me in trouble. Description:  The Dodge City, Ford & Bucklin was a tourist line that ran a dinner train in the former Rock Island Dodge City Branch, a line that left the Golden State Route at Bucklin-hence the inspiration for the short lines name. Their power was an ex US Army S 1. I caught it at Dodge City.

Description:  While waiting for CSX action at the Willis Av bridge in Syracuse, I heard something behind me. Working in the Solvay Paperboard plant was the Finger Lakes RR local. They operate several cast off ex NYC branch lines in their namesake region, using power that has been painted in a scheme that honors the lines ancestor.
