Gee that spiker is heavy but it sure beats a mall. Looking east, the heated water tank was at mid frame back in the days of steam. Waldo Station (just a run around today) is about a mile ahead. /DL |

1880s B&M Baggage Car |
Description: |
It came from the B&M and was built in the 1880s. The B&ML aquired the car in 1927 and retired it in 1949 when it became a carpenter shop. It was located in the Belfast yard from the '60s into the 90s. This scene is of the work shop now in the LCL freight end of the car. There was a small RPO space just behind the camera. /DL |

Belfast Crossing Tenders Shanty |
Description: |
This building used to set beside the crossing at Pierce Street in Belfast. To put in perspective for folks over 60 that was the crossing at the eastern end of the old RT1 bridge coming into Belfast. The tender operated two manual gates to manage auto traffic over the crossing 'back in the day'. MEC used to build these in batches when the carpenter shop didn't have anything else to do. Since the MEC discontinued it's lease of the BML in the 1920s that places this building at or near 100 years old. /DL |

Measuring the Curve |
Description: |
To know which size frog to use on a curve you've gott'a know what the curvature is. Take a 62 foot (Actually 61'8" according to Camp's "Notes on Track") string and strech it along the rail. The number of inches from the mid point of the string to the rail is the curvature in degrees. In this case we made 3 measurements and averaged them. /DL |

Excavation for ballast and leveling of the track is underway. In this scene relay switch timbers from Unity are being payed out in sequence. This process used, 9, 10, 11, 12, 14 and 16 foot timbers. Some of this were very heavy. I'm sure glad the RR came across this hi-rail tie handler. /DL |
