SRT 50013KKJ |
Description: |
Have seen these on several occasions and finally 'nabbed one! Fortunately Cabooses are still in frequent use in Thailand, here is a standard SRT type, class 'BBV' (Bogie, Brake Van) no. 50013. They are approximately 40' over couplers and feature an unmistakable combination bay window/cupola desighn. This one was on the end of an LNG tanker train of about 20 cars, at Kang Khoi Junction in Saraburi Province. [Km. post 125 from Bangkok, obviously!] That's quite an air reserviour under there, too! |

SRT 15149 Hin Lap |
Description: |
The stuff of model Railroads, but in 1:1 scale..never knew SRT even had these 'til seeing it with my own eyes! This is a class 'BV' {Brake Van} 4 wheel caboose. They're probably for local runs, this one about to depart very rural Hin Lap station. Unknown to me at the time, there was a brakeman sitting just inside the open door waiting for this train of cement hoppers to commence roll. |

SRT 444125 Hin Lap |
Description: |
Standard SRT covered hopper for cement service, Hin Lap, Saraburi province. Class is 'BCP' or Bogie, Cement, Pressurized [?]. These cars are a bit over 40' by my guess. Cement and sunlight do not bode well for the originally colorful billboard job either. -Looks more like a fertilizer promo to me! |

SRT 444476 Hin Lap |
Description: |
End view of SRT 444476, Class BCP cement hopper at Hin Lap's TPI Cement sorting yard. Didn't notice those oval builder plates until editing, the hopper bodies are Chinese made. Seems SRT has a 'standard plan' flat car desighn which can be kitted for turning into a variety of tank type rolling stock, such as seen here. |

Class 'BGT' [Bogie, Gas, Tanker] approximately 50' LNG tank car. Script reads: "Petrolium Authority of Thailand Public Co. Ltd." {There was NO WAY I'd interpret that without the Missus' help!!!} These are usually seen in trains of about 20 cars with 1 locomotive and a caboose. Seen at Kang Khoi Junction. |

Description: |
SRT 442007 is class 'BOT' or Bogie, Oil, Tanker. The most important information on these cars are the big red 'flying pennant' scripts on both ends: They read, 'FLAMMABLE!' Thai tank cars have a flattened oval shape and look to be made from kits that secure to a standard flat car 'chassis'. |

SRT 30220 Nomenclature |
Description: |
Using 30220 as the background and with the generous help of Ms. Sarnt, I have put together this [hopefully] informative photo of SRT's boxcar nomenclature..by no means complete! #1: Brake, set/release #2. "Secure doors before movement" #3. Car Class and number: The thai script akin to 'u.n.y.' is an abbreviation with a fair equivalent of: 'Bogie, Carry, Large' . Underneath the number is the English equivalent; B. -Bogie, C. -Covered, G. -Goods. #4. Load Capy. in KG. -@90,000lbs. This information varies, it seems some cars have empty weight and loaded weight scripted on same panel, others, as seen here, one listing for each end. The latter seems to be more common. Next to the capy information is a 'bar' with pertinent service data. Again, this data bar seems to vary in placement from car to car. #5. Empty/Loaded Weight limits. This detail was taken from the next car coupled to 30220. It illustrates the placement if both types of data are scripted on one panel. On the 30220, this panel will show only the Lt. Wt. for this car; at 16,000KG @ 40,000lbs. |

SRT Nomenclature; Typical Service data |
Description: |
Detail view of SRT 30220's service data bar. This style of data bar is common on many kinds of SRT equiptment. Except for 1 'point', we are so far mostly clueless as to what they mean. The one we did interpret is 'date painted' {'nct'. 9-56}. It seems SRT practice is to hand stencil this type of data. Incidentally, the thai calendar is based on the start of thier monarchy, our 2014 is thier year 2557. |

2 types of 4 wheel box cars coupled together at Ban Chong Tai. No.150179 is by far the most common type of these critters, {Class C.G.- Covered Goods} while the numberless one to the right, my first sighting of this flat-roofed type. It is not uncommon to see these cars with opened or missing journal covers either. |

In an advancing state of decomposition SRT 151387 sits on the outermost ready track at Hua Lamphong...still in service! Behind this relic is a newer type 2 truck double door box. This was the best angle i could get here, the stations boundary wall at my shoulder. To give an idea of the age of this car, 'RSR' [Royal State Railway {{of Siam}} is the old name for the SRT -and that moniker was retired in 1951!! Class is 'C.G.' for Covered Goods |
