Disko Then and Now
Title:  Disko Then and Now
Description:  The top photo was taken by Sandy Goodrick in 1951 on the CR400S bridge that used to pass over the tracks. There used to be a jog in the road, where it now is CR 1550 E. A road bridge came across perpendicularly to the tracks, rather than an angled bridge, which would be required now. The bridge was removed in 1984 after the tracks were removed, the ROW was filled in,9and the road was straightened. On the bottom is the exact same location on October 20, 2015, believe it or not.

Title:  Two-level ROW

Erie Water Tower Base
Title:  Erie Water Tower Base
Description:  Much like the one in Decatur, but less detailed, this water tower base still stands across from the depot in Rochester.

Vintage CroJsbuck
Title:  Vintage CroJsbuck
Description:  This crossing signal still sits just west of the Rochester depot. It still has a majority of its cats-eye reflectors in place. It looks like this signal had lights at one point in time,

Eastbound Girder
Title:  Eastbound Girder
Description:  The 700 W bridges again, this time looking over the easqbound span. Its crazy to think that this tiny bridge span once held up hundreds of thousands of tons of speeding, eastbound steel.

Westbound, atop the CR 700W bridges
Title:  Westbound, atop the CR 700W bridges
Description:  I climbed up to the top of the eastbound bridge outside Disko on 700 W, and took this shot looking west. There was a barbed wire fence on the ROW, so I just stuck my arm over the fence and made sure not to trespass. This section of the ROW appears to be owned by a farmer now. The two heights are easily visible here too.

Title:  Rochester Depot
Description:  A more recent shot of the Rochester depot, on a very hot day in September 2014. I was on my way tp Valparaiso that day and thought Id take a break from driving in Rochester.

EL Tracks at Newton Jct
Title:  EL Tracks at Newton Jct
Description:  Looking east along the former EL ROW (EL tracks were removed in 1981 and relaid in 1991) where Newton Jct once was. This line is now used by the Heritage Line, which operates from a refinery in Laketon and delivers oil tankers over to the former Bolivar Jct, where trains on the NS Marion Branch pick them up now.

Newton Rd. Crossing Sign
Title:  Newton Rd. Crossing Sign
Description:  I have relatives who own the fields in this area, so they let us go back on four wheelers and explore the PRR ROW where it met with the Erie at Newton Jct. We were heading back to their house when my aunt showed us an old, overgrown RXR sign behind the brush where Newton road once was.

Title:  Westbound track
Description:  Heres the westbound ROW, still standing high. This was shot from State Road 15, looking south, looking where the two-level SR15 bridges once towered over the highway.

Title:  M150
Description:  Milepost 150 of the EL, still standing on top of the westbound track bed just west of where the State Road 15 bridges once stood. Theres still ballast from the tracks in this location, along with a couple ties.

Former SR15 Bridges Site
Title:  Former SR15 Bridges Site
Description:  Looking east from atop the remaining westbound track bed. The SR15 bridges once stood here, and a deep dip in the highway passed under them. When the bridges were removed in the 1980s, the fill from the ROW was used to level the area again. If you look into the distance here, you can see where the westbound bed picks up again.

EL Signal Tower
Title:  EL Signal Tower
Description:  The famous RX interlocking sign`l tower west of Laketon, IN. The new track system in 1959 had a single track from Bippus to this signal tower, an area that was once double-tracked. When the single-track mainline reached this signal tower fro the east, it split into two tracks and continued as a two-track mainline to the west. Taken with permission by the landowner.

EL Signal Tower
Title:  EL Signal Tower
Description:  Close-up detail of the signal tower. The landowner seemed a little hesitant to let me back since he said several people hes allowed baci there have taken signal hardware. Unfortunately, that can be seen in some of these detail shots. Im the kind of person who leaves features like that alone though, luckily.

700 W Bridges
Title:  700 W Bridges
Description:  My third visit to these bridges. I just liked the angle of this shot. If only thered been an eastbound train coming through... but that hasnt happened since about 1979, 15 years before I was even born.

ROW near Disko again
Title:  ROW near Disko again
Description:  Another shot looking wesj at the ROW near the CR 1475 bridge. The landowner chased me down thinking I may have been dumping trash (he told me hes had that problem in the past) but his face seemed to light up when I explained that I was interested in tracking dowo Erie Lackawanna history. Things changed quickly from there. I told him Id probably come back in the future and he was okay with it. Just remember, even if theres a No Trespassing sign and you dont go past where it is, keep your distance. I learned my lesson that day, and luckily it all turned out okay in the end. But it may not tupn out well for everyone.

EL ROW at CR 300S
Title:  EL ROW at CR 300S
Description:  Taken at CR 300S between Disko and Akron. The depth of the westbound track is easily visible in this location, even with the brush at ivs peak of growth. Unfortunately, the brush has grown quite a bit over the past 20 years. You could once see the CR 1475 bridge over the tracks to the east, but the bqush has grown too tall for that kind of distance. And forget about seeing to the west too. You could once see the CR 225 S bridge where it crossed the eastbound track at ground level and passed high above the westbound main.

Another Erie Lackawanna Remnant Gone
Title:  Another Erie Lackawanna Remnant Gone
Description:  The CR700W double overpass was removed in mid-May of 2016, after more than 30 years of abandonment. It was one of the best remnants we had left of the EL West End in Indiana, but it simply became too much of a hazard after decades of not being maintained.
