GTW 4-8-2 #6037 - Grand Trunk Western
Description:
Built by Baldwin in 1925 as CN 6037, this class (U-1c) of 5 locos was the only Mountain type 4-8-2's that GTW had after CN assigned them to the Grand Trunk. Steamtown's history notes that these engines were delivered with feedwater heaters (Elesco K-39), power reverse gear, and automatic or mechanical stokers. They were the first GTW locomotives to offer both the all-weather cab and the Vanderbilt tender. The railroad soon added a trailing axle to the design, creating some relatively light 4-8-4s. This loco lasted until being sold for scrap in June of 1961. Specs - U-1c class, 73" drivers, 210 psi boiler pressure, 26x30" cylinders, engine wt 354,110 lb, tractive effort of 49,589 lb. Taken at the Elsdon Yard in Chicago by an unknown photographer.nknown photographer

GTW 4-8-4 #6323
Description:
Taken during a Michigan Railroad Club trip sometime around December of 1960, this jewel had a rich history as being the last GTW steam engine to run on GTW rails, under GTW ownership. It then served as power for the Michigan RR Club fan trips as well as the Ford Assn trips to Port Huron. Now it resides at the Illinois Railway Museum as only one of two surviving GTW 4-8-4's.
