PPCX 800129, "Hollywood Beach" |
Description: |
Interesting solar "sunroom" car built by Pullman-Standard in 1956 as Seaboard Airline #20. It was a 5 bedroom, buffet lounge and "solarium". Later merged into the Seaboard Coast Line as #6501 and then Amtrak as #3231. One note that was mentioned is due to the glass roof panels, the heat buildup in the "solarium" part could be excessive and difficult to cool down. |

PPCX 800655, NYC Tavern #38 |
Description: |
Not sure if this car was used on the 2019 New River Gorge trip or just held in reserve if needed. it was built by the Budd Co in 1944 as New York Central Tavern #38. NYC ordered this car from Budd Co. in March 1944 and it was delivered between November and December 1947. When built, the car had a total of 47 seats: 25 in the lounge section and 22 in the club section (2 4-seat tables, 4 2-seat tables, and 2 3-seat booths with small tables, facing the club aisle). In 1966,the car had 5 of the lounge seats replaced by coat and luggage racks for parlor service. It was originally planned to sell this car and 4 others to NdeM, however only 2 cars, #35 and #41, were actually sold. It is owned by the Collis P Huntington RR Historical Society. |
