CSX 452
Title:  CSX 452
Description:  With a free day at hand, I decided to go see my buddy TJ in Muncie and explore what NS and CSX had to offer in the area today with him. One of my main goals was to try to document trains on CSX between Farmland and Muncie, as I already had done so between Quincy and Winchester this year. I decided to head toward Farmland to begin the day. I waited quite a while and finally gave up, but, as it always happens, when I got closer to Muncie, CSX lined an eastbound. I made my way back toward Parker City and grabbed CSX M360 to begin the day, passing the former Big 4 depot and fertilizer depot in town with a pair of YN2 AC4400CWs on the front.

CSX 3266
Title:  CSX 3266
Description:  Unfortunately, NS managed to get some traffic across the diamond in Muncie before I was able to make it back into town. I picked up TJ and we did some messing around in town before we heard a track maintainer on CSX key up dispatch and ask them for some track around the Anderson area. While track was given, he told them he had an I132 to scoot through the area in about an hour. Both NS L82 and NS 189 were working in Muncie at the time, but werent in very photographable areas. We decided to head back east to Farmland to catch I132. We got settled in by the grain elevator. Eventually a lineup for I132 was given at Muncie and the train crossed the diamond. However, Tj thought he started to hear a horn well before we should have been able to hear the train. Sure enough, he was not wrong, and I could hear the horns as well, but they were not from I132. There was a westbound behind us, which happened to be this late CSX I007. I quickly ran to the other side of the elevator to grab the train quickly making up time westbound through Farmland. For some reason though, my camera decided to focus on a single piece of ballast below me, so the photo is slightly out of focus. To the right of me was this weed spraying truck which would get on the rails shortly after this traffic would pass.

UP 4864
Title:  UP 4864
Description:  As it always is with the CSX Indianapolis Line Subdivision, trains come in clumps, and this was no exception. CSX I132 showed before I007 could clear. While this wasnt the shot I wanted, Im happy I decided to cross the tracks regardless. These UP SD70Ms are becoming harder and harder to find leading road trains.

NS 4236 and NS 7638
Title:  NS 4236 and NS 7638
Description:  As soon as we left Farmland, we could hear the sounds of another westbound approaching, which was CSX I131. The dispatch called them up and told them he needed to get I008 east through Anderson before anything else, so he was going to hold up I007 ahead of them, which would mean they would be stopping at Parker City for a bit. That ended up giving us some time so we went back into Muncie to catch NS L82 yarding. This is the first time both TJ and I have caught this local with two units on the front of this local. The train crosses the 3rd of 3 bridges NS has over the White River in Muncie.

UP 5585
Title:  UP 5585
Description:  As it always is with the railroad, original plans hardly ever stay the same, and CSX decided they were going to send I007 west first before sending the I008 east. That meant I131 would get a light to proceed through Muncie, which they did. We tried to race to Selma, but stunningly, the train roared west at track speed right as we got into town. We chased it down as quick as we possibly could, but there was just no time to be able to get slightly ready for it at any location, it was just too fast. We finally got just ahead of the power to make a turn onto Lincoln St. in Muncie to pull off this shot. Id certainly be more disappointed in this shot if the SD70MACe in trail wouldve led. But were just happy we were able to get back ahead of it!

RVM Weed Sprayer Truck
Title:  RVM Weed Sprayer Truck
Description:  After I008 passed, things got very quiet and we headed to Walnut St. to do some catching up. After some waiting, the weed sprayer truck that was at Farmland came west spraying weeks across the diamond.

Title:  NS 8103
Description:  TJ has always been a sucker for these heritage locomotives. While I prefer to see them on the point of trains, it was pretty neat to finally see a heritage unit together for the first time.

CSX 5491
Title:  CSX 5491
Description:  After NS 174 passed, CSX lined an eastbound. Since we missed Selma earlier in the day, we headed over to Selma to grab it. After some waiting, CSX M364 popped into town with a duo of CSX GEs on the front end. And now I can officially say I have covered the entire CSX Indy Line from Quincy to Muncie this year!

NS 7638
Title:  NS 7638
Description:  While waiting on CSX M364, NS L80 got track out of Muncie to head east toward Redkey and then eventually Dunkirk. While I was hoping to be able to get the train around Albany, but it was no such luck, as when we followed the tracks east we found the train hopping onto the branch to Dunkirk. We caught up with the train at CR 1000W on the way to Dunkirk. The leader on today's L80 happened to be the 2nd unit that was on NS L82 this morning. Some Road Closed cones were up by the tracks, but eh crossing itself was clearly not closed. So I repositioned some things to make an interesting shot. Gotta do what you gotta do.

UP 5345
Title:  UP 5345
Description:  Finally CSX sent another westbound, this time in the form of CSX B521, the westbound as needed pipe train to the UP. We framed it passing the old Big 4 Freight House. The status of this building is uncertain, as it was slated to be part of Muncies new railpark, but I believe plans on that so far have been scrapped.

NS 4222
Title:  NS 4222
Description:  After meeting NS 188 at Royerton, NS L69 received a light to continue south to home base at Muncie East Yard. This time we grabbed it crossing the 1st of the 3 bridges over the White River. The first bridge, unlike the other two, is girdered and takes a bit of a walk to get to.

UP 7726
Title:  UP 7726
Description:  A pair of UP GEs bring NS 196 north by the Muncie Mall. Some dark clouds hang to the south, and unfortunately they covered the setting sun before the train could arrive. Still made for a nice backdrop, however.

CSX 293
Title:  CSX 293
Description:  After 51R passed, TJ and I decided to call it a day. I took him back to his house and began heading back north toward home. Right when I got out of Muncie, as always, CSX finally lined a westbound and I heard the defect detector in Parker City trip. I quickly raced west to Yorktown and barely beat CSX M331 heading west out of town. Probably wasnt worth it since it was so dark, but Im a sucker for the Indy Line trains. Slow day, but a good day with a good friend.
