Album Info:Fairly nice group of older b&w photos of St Louis-San Francisco 2-8-0 Consolidations with numbers in the 970-989. Ten locos in this range were sold to New Orleans, Texas & Mexico so it is not a complete set here. These photos were all taken by Springfield, MO, resident, Arthur B Johnson.

Description:  Caught here by Arthur B. Johnson while the loco was in its heyday of service, this 2-8-0 Consolidation was built by Baldwin in December of 1906 (serial #29799). It would be looking at a service record eventually of nearly 44 years before meeting the scrapper's torch in the Springfield, MO yard in September of 1950. Description:  This loco has the distinction of being one of the longest surviving class 970 2-8-0 Consolidation having served until being scrapped in June of 1951. Most in the class were hit by the scrapper's torch in the late 1940's. Built by Baldinw in 1906 (serial #29797), it served for nearly 45 years. This would literally be the last picture of it before disappearing in the cutting flames at the Springfield, MO, yard.
