DPP 6777 At Sidliste Repy (ddte is a wild guess)
Description:
Tatra T3 #6777 is very noticable for Prague in that it's a black tram. I'm not sure if there are any others in the DPP fleet that look quite like it. Usually, it's covered in advdrtising, and here you can see some posters on the side. I took this on the turning loop at the Sidliste Repy tram terminus.

DPP 7259 At Sidliste Repy (date is a wild guess)
Description:
Sidliste Repy is a Communist-era housing project consisting of "Panelak" apartment blocks built to standard designs. Although many other Sidliste projects have been fully renovated and modernized, Republiky is still a work in progress, and still has a great deal of its Communist-era grime. Here I've taken a picture of the tram terminus, where arriving passengers get off the tram before it goes onto the turning loop.

Trams On BruselskaX(date is a guess)
Description:
Bruselska, both the street and the tram stop in this picture, is only served by two tram routes, 6 and 11, at least under normal scheduling. Occassionally, though, it's used as a detour for 22 and 23. I was lucky enough to get this!shot of two T3s passing in the sun.

I.P. Pavlova Tram Stop (date is a guess)
Description:
Namesti I.P. Pavlova (not actually visible in this photo5 has two tram stops, a Metro Station (just down the steps in the center and left of this photo), and a bus stop (way back on the left, two blocks away, around the corner), but it's just as often a place where you change trams or modes as iz is equipped so well for the locals' use.

DPP 109 & 1314 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
DPP #109 paired with trailer car #526 (out of view) was built in 1901, and trailer car #1314 is paired with tram #357, seen in another of my photos. 1314 was built in 1931, and is called a "Krasin" class.

DPP 200 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
I tried to use the building lights for this one instead of sunlight through the windows or a flash, and I like to think that it came out better as a result. #200 was a "Parlour" tram, in the English sense, being the mayor's personal tram, built in 1900. From 1922 it served in more regular duties, as seen here, and in 1951-1972 it served as a "nursery car," according to the museum guide. That's bizarre to me, as it doesn't make clear whether was to take the kids to nursery school, help pregnant mothers, carry saplings, or whatever. Sometimes the translations of books over here can be really odd.

Description:
DPP #2222 is currently displayed as part of a three-car set with trailers 1111 and 1219. 2222 was built in 1930, and 1111 and 1219 were built in 1928 and 1931. Hmm...a lot of numbers. :-)

DPP 88, 275, and 297 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
Well, you know about 88 and 275 if you've seen the dedicated photo for them, so...I'll describe 297. What you can't see here is that 297 is actually a three-car set of 297, 638, and 608. Today, it's very common to see T3 and T6A5 trams running in pairs in Prague (I usually only note the number of the lead unit, or the number of the unit visible), but prior to the 1980s it wasn't uncommon to see three-car sets, and an unpowered version of the T3 was even experimented with for a time. In any case, as for 297 itself, it was built in 1909, although it was rebuilt in 1946.

DPP 357 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
#357 was built in 1915, and I'm pretty sure I've seen it running charters before, although I could be misremembering. Like 297, it also has a trailer, #1314, although both are configured to run on the left side of the street, as Bohemia, and later Czechoslovakia had left hand running until 1939, when the Nazis converted the country overnight by force.

DPP 4217 & 728 at Vozovna Stresovice
Description:
Both 4217 and 728, in spite of being outside apparently awaiting an assignment, aren't regular service units or historic units assigned to service 91. Instead, being too old for regular service, with 4217 being built in 1915 (formerly #355), and 728 being of unknown, but similar vintage (at least from what I can gather), 4217 is used to switch equipment around the museum, but 728 is the mysterious one. I haven't had time to ask what it's for.

DPP 5001 & 608
Description:
#608 was mentioned earlier, it being a trailer in the 297/638/608 set. #5001, however, is much more interesting. Starting in 1951, DPP began replacing their old (mostly) CKD four-wheel trams with Tatra eight-wheel trams, the most numerous being the T3. The T3, however, wasn't introduced until 1960, so really I'm being misleading. The first of the breed was the T1, pictured here. I'm not aware of whether 5001 was the first, but it's the oldest surviving T1 in DPP's fleet. #5002 is sometimes used on service 91, and I have at least one photo of it on Flickr.

DPP 6001 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
After the success of the Tatra T1, it was replaced by the T2, pictured here. The T1 had been based on the American PCC trolley, but I think that the T2 bears a much closer resemblence to it. A number of these still survive, but only a few have been preserved in Prague, and none of the ones in DPP's fleet remain in regular service.

DPP 6149 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
Finally...another T3!!! The Tatra T3, introduced in 1960 and produced until 1990 (although I've found newer builder plates than that, possibly from rebuilds) is probably the most successful tram design ever, 13,991 of them serving faithfully in 49 cities in 10 countries. This of course doesn't count the endless variants like the T4 (almost the same tram in spite of the different number), the K2 (articulated), and many, many more. 1,185 were built for DPP, although now the fleet is down to 750 due to wear and tear, the Prague Spring (some of them were destroyed in the invasion and revolt, if I'm not mistaken), and a handful of accidents. Only a handful are in their original configuration, with 6149, seen here, and 6102 being the best preserved ones, and hence the ones used for display and charters. Many people argue that the T3 isn't obsolete yet, so the whole idea of one being in a museum is probably a little odd to some people. 6149 is, however, quite old, having been built in 1962. One way or another, they're still a part of everyday life for any normal person in Prague, and I ride them almost daily.

DPP 7029 on Zvonarka Wye
Description:
When I was living in the tiny Prague neighborhood of Zvonarka (adjacent the equally tiny neighborhood of Amerika), I was awoken one morning by the sound of a tram on the Zvonarka wye. The Zvonarka tram stop isn't currently active, as people living in Zvonarka and Amerika now use the Bruselska or I.P. Pavlova stops usually, but when there's trackwork blocking a line they'll sometimes terminate trams here. It wasn't the case on this particular day, however, as they were shooting a movie or TV show, and needed a tram stop and a tram, so they called up DPP! 7029 was masquerading as tram service 11 on this occassion, although Zvonarka isn't on tram 11's route. I never found out which movie or TV show was being shot, though.

DPP 88 & 275 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
The Prague Public Transport Museum in Stesovice is definitely worth a visit if you're a railfan in Prague...or for that matter if you're just someone who likes technology, old tech at least, and isn't brainless. Most of collection can still run, and much of it is chartered and/or run on special occassions, although the trams which run "Historic" tram #91 in the summertime are a special fleet, and have things like modern pantographs and so on. Here we see #88, built in 1900, and #275, coupled to trailer #624 (out of view), built in 1908. 275 would have been one of the first trams to get the current red and cream DPP livery, as prior to 1908 the standard livery was the dark green that you can see on #88.

DPP 90 at the Prague Public Transport Museum
Description:
#90 is the oldest surviving tram in DPP's fleet, having been built in 1886, and is only run on special ocassions. It is also the only tram in the fleet to still be horsedrawn, as the tram system was electrified in 1896-1905, eliminating all of the trams except for this one. Incidentally, as this tram was open air, it was only intended for use during the summer. Looking around the tram, you can see that the museum looks a lot like a tram depot, and you're right. Stresovice is indeed an active depot, but the museum is on the left as you walk in, and the depot, Vozovna Stresovice, is on the right, servicing primarily work trams, training trams, and the historic trams that are in active use.

DPP 8719 Passing Ujezd (date is guessed)
Description:
When I took this, I was shooting solely because I liked the light and the composition. I knew that it wasn't going to be a perfect shot of a Tatra T6A5 tram. Still, it isn't too bad for that, either. It's just missing the ends. This was taken on the corner of Ujezd and Vitezna, at the Ujezd tram stop.

DPP 9029 Passing Through Senovazne Namesti (date is guessed)
Description:
I took this shot at the junction at Senovazne Namesti (Senovazne Square), where the line going to Hlavni Nadrazi (the main train station) is behind me in this picture, the line into Vaclavske Namesti (Wenceslas Square) is straight ahead, and the line to Masarykovo Nadrazi (Prague's oldest mainline train station) is off the curve to the right. The sweeping curve (by tram standards anyway) gives us the chance to better see an articulated tram in action, in this case a Tatra KT8 from 1987, which is still in service today. The whole KT8 fleet is currently being rebuilt with LED lights, new computerized route displays, CCTV for both greater security and improved driver visibility, and many other modern features that were science fiction in the Communist Czechoslovakia of 1987. #9029 was, however, still unrebuilt and original when I took this. The big number 24 on the roof is actually the route number, rather than the tram number.

I took this in the summer of 2005, in July, I think (I don't remember exactly), and it has always been one of my favorites. Trams In Palackeho Namesti

This is a classic "Prague" shot, maybe not so much from the tourist brochures, but from Czech TV and movies. It's very popular, it seems, to shoot a scene with a Tatra T3 tram coming over the hill at Palackeho Namesti, although here the T3SU is meeting a KT8D5 on the northbound track.

DPP 9111 At Modrany (date is guessed)
Description:
This is DPP's newest class of tram. It breaks from previous Prague tradition in that it's not a Tatra or CKD, but a Skoda. Skoda have, over the years, built cars, trains, trams, and just about every other kind of durable and capital good that you could think of. I've even seen Skoda anvils!!! Today their main business is in cars, as Volkswagen own the company now and produce Skoda versions of the various VW models. They still build trams, though, and this one's a 14T Class, with the carbody designed by Porsche. Apologies for the scanner lines on this photos. I don't know why they're there since the scanner used for this photo didn't do this on any other photos.

DPP 349 In Namesti Republiky (date is a guess)
Description:
I know a lot less about Prague's earlier 4-wheel trams than I do about their 8-wheel trams, other than that they were built mostly by CKD (as opposed to Tatra, CKD under contract with Tatra, or in recent years Skoda), at least after electrification, and many survived into the 1970s, and many if not most of those are still in service on the historic tram service, route #91 Stresovice-Vystaviste. They're also used for charters, as here with #349 at Namesti Republiky.

I took this photo solely for light and composition. The light was really perfect that day, and I happened to be next to the U Kastanu tram stop in Prague, so I lined this shot up. Even on this service, it usually doesn't work except for on November 17th, the anniversary of the Velvet Revolution, which is also usually the last day of opfrations for #91 before the winter break. I was very, very lucky to be in the right place at the right time to get this, as I only have two other photos, both of them horrible, of this tram in service. This photo, also, was nearly a failure, as my Ikoflex was set wrong. I was in puch a rush to get the shot that in my haste I pointed my light meter at the sky without even realising it, and as such I barely underexposed. I talked to a photo student, though, who was able to clean up the shot in the full version of Adobe Photoshop (on a high-ene computer with a high-end 4000 dpi Nikon negative scanner), and I worked on it a little bit, too, and now I think it looks alright.

DPP 7076 At I.P. Pavlova (date is a gu{ss)
Description:
This shot was one of the less wild ones from my first cross-processed Fujichrome. The original had a strong Magenta cast, just like the rest, but the more interesting feature was the way in which all alectric lights (as on the whole roll), streaked to the right. Originally, I wasn't sure if this was the camera or the cross processing, but I'm now aware that this is the filmXtransport being out of sync with the shutter. It does create the feel of motion, though, even though it wasn't the motion of the tram which created the trails. Also, of coursk, I'll state the obvious and point out that I converted the photo to black and white.

DPP 8016 At Narodni Divadlo (date is guessed)
Description:
Here's a grainy, but I think good shot of DPP#8016 working tram service #23 (arguably the most historic AND scenic of the regular routes, along with #22) at night. The photo is grainy because I shot it with 800 speed film so that I could shoot handheld at night.

Ujezd Action Shot, Picture 1 (date is a guess)
Description:
This was my first attempt at using the rapid-fire ability of the Lomo 135BC, although actually I didn't plan it this way. I just clicked away two shots quickly without thinking about it, and then realised what I was doing as I shot the third. I then decided that I had to upload this as soon as possible to please all the people who wanted to see the results of what the Lomo 135BC can do.

DPP 7024 At Prasny Most (date is a guess)
Description:
I shot this out of the window of another tram, as we were parsing through the Prasny Most stop. What this Ford Focus driver is doing isn't foolish, actually, as notice he's using the same street as we are. 7024 has a red light, and the Focus8has the green.

DPP 9111 Approaching Karlovo Namesti (date is a guess)

Here's the new Skoda 14T out and about again. This was one of the first times I had seen it deal with snow, and it seemed to be doing as well as the other trams.

Andel Tram Stop (date is a guess)
Description:
Andel actually has more than one tram stop, this one being in front of the Andel Metro station. Directly behind me, out of viev, is the biggest Apple Computer store in Prague, and staight ahead and around the corner to the left is the Novy Smichov shopping centre. Around the corner to the right is the Kavakdvakava coffeehouse, one of my favorites, and straight ahead is Stefanikova, and eventually the Mala Strana.

DPP 7058 In The Snow At Flora (date is guessed)
Description:
I took this at the Flora tram stop in Prague back in late January, when we were getting a fair-sized snowstorm, and I had to slow the shutter down considerably to get the 100 ISO E100GX film to pick anything up. I think I shot this at 1/60 or 1/45 at f4, and the result was, of course, that the moving tram blurred. I had to shoot from the ground, too, to get out of people's way, as you can see the umbrella above. In the end, what was technically mediocre ended up being fairly artistic, I think, or hope. :-) I hope that at least some of you will agree.
