Green along the Great River |
Description: |
an Eastbound stack container train @East Dubuque just north (or west if you wish) of "the tunnel"!!! the leaves were turning many different colors and the air was cool and crisp--- it was a beautiful time in the Upper Mississippi River valley along the river bluffs!!! We were on our way "home" to see our son &his wife--- &to meet the first grandchild!!! we now hear that there is another one "under construction" & should arrive around Christmas time!!! trains are great--- but without people to run them &without people to need &then use the things that trains move--- there then would be no reason for any of this to exist!!! |

Waiting for their turn to run |
Description: |
Waitng perhaps for "opposing traffic" or maybe a track inspector @the east end of the center passing siding just west of the crossing diamonds &the tunnel sits another stack train but this time with 2green BN's both facing east!!! Double track with center passing sidings--- i would say the Burlington (CB&Q) had class!!! Maybe it was also because there was just a lot of traffic that ran here in the Upper Mississippi River valley between Chicago &the "Great Northern Pacific" which then headed "west" from Minneapolis/ St Paul!!! And because the Milwaukee Road was also there along the western side the Great River &ran west to "the Pacific Northwest"--- the "Jim Hill lines" as they were known (because the Great Northern and the Northern Pacific together jointly owned the CB&Q)--- these 3 railroads that later became the Burlington Northern had better get a move on it!!! |
