Waitng perhaps for "opposing traffic" or maybe a track inspector @the east end of the center passing siding just west of the crossing diamonds &the tunnel sits another stack train but this time with 2green BN's both facing east!!! Double track with center passing sidings--- i would say the Burlington (CB&Q) had class!!! Maybe it was also because there was just a lot of traffic that ran here in the Upper Mississippi River valley between Chicago &the "Great Northern Pacific" which then headed "west" from Minneapolis/ St Paul!!! And because the Milwaukee Road was also there along the western side the Great River &ran west to "the Pacific Northwest"--- the "Jim Hill lines" as they were known (because the Great Northern and the Northern Pacific together jointly owned the CB&Q)--- these 3 railroads that later became the Burlington Northern had better get a move on it!!! |
