Description:  BYC. Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just West of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5712 and another unit whose number is not recorded. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5712 was built in 1952. They're pulling Train #54 down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East.

In this context, they're departing Chicago's Union Station with the eastbound "General" during the waning days of the PRR.

Both were built by EMD. #5712 is an EP-22 built in 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5860-B is an EP-20 built in 1948 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They are passing under the 7th Street Bridge with a 20-car passenger train on their way to Harrisburg, Philadelphia, and New York; the time is 3:50 P.M.
