Here is the front side of a "Vanishing Vistas" portrait that was published by Lyman E. Cox in 1972. Photo courtesy of the Penn Central Railroad. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5712 and #5892. Both are EP-22's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,250 horsepower each. #5712 was constructed in October of 1952, while #5892 was built in April of 1950. In this context, they're departing Chicago's Union Station with the eastbound "General" during the waning days of the PRR. |
