Description: |
A local switch job crossing the Fox River on former Soo rails. This area in Neenah was crowded with paper industry in the not too distant past. There is a Kimberly Clark facility to the left of the camera (photo is along their parking lot) but the rails that served it are torn out. Neenah Paper is about a quarter mile to the rear of the camera and this train may very well spot some of these cars there via the former C&NW line. |

After crossing the Fox River channel in Neenah, the CN follows former joint Milwaukee Road / Soo Line rail across Doty Island. The right of way run parallel River Street for a short distance as it crosses West North Water Street and Forest Avenue. At the lead end of the engine, one can spot the former Milwaukee and Northern (Milwaukee Road) Neenah depot on Forest Avenue. The train will cross the Fox River in Menasha once again as it leaves Doty Island. There used to be a few businesses to switch along this part of the line on Doty Island, but they all stopped using rail or closed. |

Description: |
CN local crosses Washington St. after servicing Chemtrade (formerly General Chemical Corp.) via former C&NW rails on Doty Island at Menasha, WI on 17 Nov. '17. The awesome, old building at left is currently home to Expert Driveline Truck & Auto Repair, 216 Washington St. Built in '35 for Verbrick's Service Co., Norbert F. Verbrick, proprietor; it operated as such until '84. Designed by Henry Auler in the Tudor Revival style, it and the adjacent building at 214 Washington St. (originally offices of Northwest Electrolyte and Engraving, also designed by Auler in the Tudor Revival style), partially visible above the rear of the locomotive, were erected on what had long been a stave yard for the Menasha Wooden Ware Co., currently known as Menasha Corp. When the building was constructed in '35, then Washington Ave. was also Hwy. 41. |
