CN through freight slowly pulls out past a CN local on former SOO rails at N. Lake St. in Neenah, WI on 15 Feb. '14. This is probably the busiest intersection, and consequently busiest grade crossing, in Appleton. The large brick building in background is Good Company restaurant, est. 1980. The building was formerly Marshall Brothers Wholesale Paper, a.k.a. Marshall Paper Co., est. 1893. It used to receive rail service, the spur was on the opposite, north side, of the building. |

CN local prepares for the short trip back to the former SOO yard after spotting about 4 or 5 covered hoppers at Galloway Co. via former C&NW rails at Neenah, WI on 17 Mar. '14. These rails used to be the C&NW mainline through Neenah and Menasha, but now end just short of S. Commercial St. at Galloway Co. The facility was started in ‘27 at 601 S. Commercial St. as Neenah Milk Products; Galloway took it over in ‘55. The portion of the facility you see is relatively recent addition built over the original ROW after portions of the C&NW main line were torn up. The older parts of the factory are out of frame on the right. |

CN local passes Kimberly-Clark Corp., Neenah Nonwovens Facility, as it makes the short trip back to the former SOO yard after servicing Galloway Co. via former C&NW rails at Neenah, WI on 17 Mar. '14. These rails are part of the remnants of the C&NW mainline through Neenah and Menasha. I’m not sure if this facility receives rail service or not. It definitely used to because has 3 indoor spurs at the southwest end of the building. These covered hoppers are stored on the remnants of a small yard C&NW used to service several customers on this end of town (the remnants of one of the turnouts can be seen in the foreground). |

CN local passes the former C&NW depot as it heads northeast toward Kaukauna Industrial Park No.1 on 30 Mar. '14. It dropped most of its train on the mainline just west of Gertrude St. so it could go spot a covered hopper at Schuh Transport, Inc. Then it would return here, pick up its train, and continue on to service Thilmany Pulp and Paper Co. mill. Designed in the Art Moderne style and built in 1947, it originally had a flat roof. The current gabled roof was added at some point after 1983. |

GTW 4934 |
Description: |
A GTW unit moves along an industrial spur towards the Washington Street grade crossing. The trees make it hard to see, but the unit is traversing between two old defunct rail served buildings to which the turnouts have been removed and mother nature is trying to reclaim. To get to this point, the crew has taken a turnout from the former CNW Neenah Yard on it's north end and ducked in behind the buildings. This spur used to go all the way to serve Gilbert Paper Comany but now only serves the former General Chemical facility. I noticed the General Chemical facility has recently changed names since the new year, unfortunately I do not recall the new name. |

GTW 4934 |
Description: |
After departing the former CNW Neenah Yard and running between some buildings in close proximity to the track, the 4934 crosses Washington Street. The CN uses these former CNW rails to serve what was a General Chemical facility. The spur also served Gilbert Paper Company from the south side of the Fox River and used to get at least two switches per day. Gilbert Paper also had another spur leading to it that came across the river and had boxcars spotted on that side of the building upon a trestle. |

Description: |
After departing the former CNW Neenah Yard and crossing Washington Street, the 4934 continues down the winding former CNW spur to serve the last remaining industry on this spur. Satellite images reveal where the rails used to reach before being torn up. The rails may be gone, but the right of way can still be made out. |

The former CNW station in Neenah overlooks as GTW 4934 shoves a cut of boxcars across Commercial Street. This former CNW mainline is now truncated about a half mile to the rear of this unit at Neenah Paper. Neenah Paper is served via a switch back across the Neenah channel. If any of these cars are to be spotted at the Neenah Paper mill, they will need to be ran around. There is also a warehouse along this line, which the cars are in position to be spotted in relationship to the loco. |
