PRR 9691, EF-15A, 1965
Title:  PRR 9691, EF-15A, 1965
Description:  Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here on the right (L to R) are PRR engines #9691 and #7206. Both were built by GM-EMD. #9691 is an EF-15A constructed as an EH-15 in April of 1949, rated at 1,500 horsepower, later regeared and reclassified as an EF-15A, and retired in February of 1967. #7206 is an EFS-17M built in 1957 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. They have just come down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve with a 60-car mixed-cargo freight train and are passing the derailment site with caution. The caboose is #477382. Visible in the center is PRR steam-powered crane #490965. Visible on the left is one of the two derailed locomotives, PRR engine #8890 ~ an AS-10 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1950 and rated at 1,000 horsepower. Visible in the distance (L to R) are the PRR Test Plant Building and the 17th Street Bridge. (#6 of 14)

Wreck damaged GP9
Title:  Wreck damaged GP9
Description:  Among the units on the Altoona dead line this day was this Penn Central GP9, which had been wrecked by a runaway box car in West Virginia (in September of 1977, I believe). #7232 had been one of the few PC units to wear the red "P." She was delivered to the Pennsylvania in October 1959. Erie Lackawanna 1025, an RS3, was delivered to the Erie in March 1951. They were among dozens and dozens of engines awiting the torch, sitting in the serene and crystal snow that day.
