Title:  IC 2-8-2 #1491 - Illinois Central
Description:  Built by Baldwin in August of 1923 originally as IC 2-8-2 #1491, the Mikado was rebuilt and renumbered in March of 1942 to IC #1491. It was renumbered again in March of 1954 to IC #1696. After nearly 33 years of service, the loco was retired and scrapped in 1956. Rebult specs - 63 1/2" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine wt of 308,500 lb, tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No date, location or photographer was listed for the photo so an approximate date was used.

Title:  IC 2-8-2 #1505 - Illinois Central
Description:  Long before as SW14 loco wore the IC #1505, this Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado, Illinois Central #1505, had the honor to wear it. Built in july of 1918 as IC #1806 (serial #49353), the IC shops rebuilt and renumbered to IC #1294 in November of 1941. Later in January of 1951 it was again renumbered to IC #1505 as seen here in the scrap line at Proviso, IL. The loco lasted on the rosters until beind sold for scrap in February of 1956. Rebuild specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of 308,500 lb and tractive effort of 65,868 lb. No photographer was listed for the photo.

Later in December of 1951 it was again renumbered to IC #1517. Description:  Illinois Central 2-8-2 1640 was photographed at MAYS YARD, just west of New Orleans, on 18 April 1954. It had been built by Lima (5039) in April 1915 as the 1735, was renumbered 1233 in February 1943, renumbered 1640 in February 1954 and was scrapped in 1956.

Then in April of 1951, it was renumbered again to IC #1758 as seen here. After nearly 44 years of service, the loco was sold for scrap in May of 1955. Description:  Here is a very poor picture of Illinois Central 2-8-2 #1803 built by Baldwin in August of 1918. , The loco was rebuilt and renumbered first in September of 1941 to IC 1291 boosting the boiler pressure and weight which significantly increased the tractive effort from54,158 lb to 65,868 lb. It was renumbered again to IC #1651 in March of 1954. After nearly 42 years of service, the loco was retired and scrapped in February of 1960. Rebuilt specs - 63.5" drivers, 225 psi boiler pressure, 27x30" cylinders, engine weight of308,500 lb, and a new tractive effort of 65,868 lb.
