Title:  Snapping the First Class
Description:  No.25 - The Duquesne - with a pair of U25C helpers and three E units with 22 cars and healthy head-end traffic is coming out of Scotch Run Curve at MP 241 on this first day of September, 1966 at a time when renumbering of locomotives had begun for the pending Penn-Central merger. PRR helpers on the point were referred to as "snappers". Note the lead E unit still has its trainphone antennas.

They are pulling a 19-car westbound passenger train and are about to stop at the Altoona Passenger Station; the time is 2:11 P.M. Visible in the background are some of the PRR's Passenger Car Shops.

All were built by EMD. #5789, #5801, and #5889 are EP-22's rated at 2,250 horsepower each; #5789 and #5801 were built in 1952, but #5889 was built in 1950. #5844-B is an EP-20 built in 1947 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. Description:  Beautiful color slide of the Spirit of St Louis headed up by PRR 5894 leaving Union Station in St Louis, MO. Built by EMD in March of 1951, it survived into the Penn Central era as 4294 and then Amurak as #301. Trailing immediately behind is PRR E7B #5860. Definiitely a variety of passenger cars in the background around the station. Photographer's initials may be MH(RW), maybe not.

They are pulling an 18-car eastbound passenger train and will soon stop at the Passenger Station in Altoona. At that point, not only will passengers exit and board the train, but both engine and train crews will change.
