Westbound from JO Tower.
Pennsy's track 103, then B&O and finally EL all intersected between this signal bridge and East Market St. bridge. When Conrail abandoned Akron, CSX was realigned to it's present configuration. Quaker Square is visible in the background.

Douglas Hildebrandt General How many tracks used to be here? 11/9/2009 6:44:07 PM
Fred Stuckmann General 1 Pennsy, 2 Chessie and 2 EL. From left to right. A bit farther west, EL had a 3rd rail for switching REA and Quaker Oats. It would have been visible from here. 11/9/2009 7:02:56 PM
TERRENCE ROBLE General I seen a 1977 photograph of a Conrail train in Akron with the Akron skyline in the backdrop, the train was on the far left track and in the foreground was a light tower that is normally seen at a yard. there is telelgraph pole to the right of the five main lines. Ther best looking track is the one second from the right. Alsoappears to be a grain elevator to the far right looking toward the skyline. Thanks for more photographs!!!!! 11/9/2009 10:34:00 PM
Alan Fricker General Ok, 5 tracks here would explain why the signal bridge is so wide-makes sense now. 11/11/2009 8:43:31 AM
