PRR 71, L-1S, 1948
Allen. Here is an original photo by an unidentified photographer that was taken in Modena, Pennsylvania, in October of 1948. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #71, an L-1S (2-8-2) "Mikado" built in Juniata during February of 1915 and retired in September of 1948 after 33 years of faithful service. Note that the headlight, builder's badge, bell, and main driving rods have been removed in preparation for scrapping.
