NKP 2-8-4 #770 - Nickel Plate Road         
Beautiful action shot of Nickel Plate Road heading up a fast moving freight train with a long trailing steam cloud behind photographed by rail fan Ludlow. History - Lima, 3/1949, Note on back "Sunrise, March 20th. 3 above zero" Specifics - S3 class, 69" drviers, impressive 245 psi boiler pressure, 25x34" cylinders, engine weight of 428,500 lb, tractive effort of 64,135 lb. All of the S class had Worthington Type 5 SA feed water heaters, Elesco Type E superheaters, Standard Type MB stokers, Precision Type F-3 reverse gear, and 14" (356 mm) piston valves. This is a Ludlow photo but no location was listed which could be anywhere in the flatlands of the Midwest.
