A new(in the mid 80s) development in the DC area was Crystal City in Arlington VA, which sat next to National Airport(its Reagan now) and alongside the RF&P at a place known as RO, where it ended and the Pennsy began. B&O trains also came through here to reach Potomac Yard, which itself would fall to changing freight patterns over the next decade, becoming a fertile field for new real estate. CSX melded the RF&P-still independent then-and the B&O lines north of DC, connecting them with the southern half of CSX at Richmond. Heres train 405 rolling onto the RF&P at RO behind a mix of the new companys power. |
