ATSF 2-6-2 #1028 - Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe  Contributor's Pick!       
Built by Burnham, Wms & Co (Baldwin) in 1901, this Prairie style locomotive started out as a 4-cyl. Vauclain compound that was later simpled between 1912-18. All werer gone by 1956 except two that were preserved - 1015 & 1024. Original specs - class 1014, 79" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 17x28" high pressure cylinders, 28x28" low pressure cylinders, engine weight of 209,220 lb, modest tractive effort of 25,446 lb.
