New Orleans Public Service car 812 was inbound on the ST. CHARLES BELT. The car had just turned left from Tulane Avenue onto South Liberty Street, and in two blocks it would turn right onto Canal Street. The bunting with the trophy on the corner building showed that it might have been SUGAR BOWL season! Much of the area in this photo is unrecognizable today; but the tall building in the background – the JUNG HOTEL at 1500 Canal Street – is still there. Car 812 had been built by the J.G. Brill Co. in 1922 and was scrapped in April 1953. (date of photo is unknown) |
