Description:  New Orleans Public Service TULANE car 411 was outbound behind a newer car in the 500-block of Canal Street. Chartres Street was on the right side of the intersection while Common was on the left. The 411 had been built by the Southern Car Co. in 1915 and was retired in 1948. (approximate date of photo)

Description:  New Orleans Public Service car 809 was outbound on Willow Street, on its way from CARROLLTON STATION to the outer end of the SOUTH CLAIBORNE line. The car had window screens, which had been added to some cars after WWII which typically ran on the TULANE and ST. CHARLES belts. The car had been built by the J.G. Brill Co. in 1922 and was scrapped in April 1953. (date of photo is unknown)

Title:  NOPSI 812
Description:  New Orleans Public Service car 812 was inbound on the ST. CHARLES BELT. The car had just turned left from Tulane Avenue onto South Liberty Street, and in two blocks it would turn right onto Canal Street. The bunting with the trophy on the corner building showed that it might have been SUGAR BOWL season! Much of the area in this photo is unrecognizable today; but the tall building in the background – the JUNG HOTEL at 1500 Canal Street – is still there. Car 812 had been built by the J.G. Brill Co. in 1922 and was scrapped in April 1953. (date of photo is unknown)

NOPSI at the New Basin Canal
Title:  NOPSI at the New Basin Canal
Description:  An unidentified New Orleans Public Service street car was crossing the NEW BASIN CANAL drawbridge on South Carrollton Avenue. This was a TULANE BELT car heading towards the Mississippi River. The streetcar line here was replaced by the TULANE trolleybus line on 8 January 1951, and the canal was filled in shortly after that. PELICAN STADIUM was on the other side of the canal; it was torn down in October 1957. (approximate date of photo)

Description:  New Orleans Public Service 968 was at the Mississippi River end of the NAPOLEON car line, on Napoleon Avenue at Tchoupitoulas Street. The 968 had been built by the Perley A. Thomas Car Works in 1924. The NAPOLEON car line was replaced with buses on 18 February 1953, but car 968 is still in operation on the ST. CHARLES line in 2020. (approximate date of photo)

Description:  New Orleans Public Service car 933 was at the outer end of the CANAL-CEMETERIES car line and just beginning its trip back to the Mississippi River as it turned from West End Boulevard onto City Park Avenue. Greenwood Cemetery is off to the right and Metairie Cemetery is in the right background. The New Basin Canal had been right behind the Acme Marble & Granite building at 101 City Park Avenue - on the other side of the street car - and had been recently filled in. The track here was abandoned on 20 August 1951, when the end of the line was moved to Canal Street at City Park Avenue. (approximate date of photo)

Up until 15 January 1950 the WEST END line continued on from here to Lake Pontchartrain. Description:  New Orleans Public Service car 801 was stopped at the temporary end of the ST. CHARLES car line, on South Carrollton Avenue at Dixon Street. The was the end of the line from 8 January 1951, when the ST. CHARLES / TULANE belt line was discontinued, until 10 August 1952, when it was relocated down South Carrollton to South Claiborne. JIM’S PLACE, a restaurant and bar known for its fried chicken, was right across the street at 3832 South Carrollton. The 801 had been built by Brill in 1922 and was scrapped in April 1953.
