A CN container train crosses the Rat River and bisects the Rat River Wildlife Area as it speeds southeast via former SOO rails at Medina Junction, WI, on 24 Sep. '20. Train had two locomotives, CN 3151 and CN 3848. The locomotives are passing the foundations of the old SOO facilities here. These foundations rest along both sides of the tracks about 700' northwest of the actual junction. If the direction of view in the photograph (http://www.wisconsinhistory.org/Content.aspx?dsNav=N:4294963828-4294963814&dsRecordDetails=R:IM24898) on the Wisconsin Historical Society website is labeled accurately, a coal tower and shed stood on the left side of the tracks and a water tower and another shed to the right. The CN microwave tower in the background stands at the approximate site of where the SOO/WC Medina Station depot once stood on Hwy. M. |
