| Sweetland. Here is the first of three successive 35mm color slides of photos by David R. Sweetland that were taken in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, in July of 1959. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9565 and another "EF" Class unit whose number is not recorded. Both were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9565 is an EF-15 constructed in September of 1948 and retired in September of 1965 after just 17 years of revenue service. They are about to enter the New Portage Tunnel with a mixed-cargo freight train on its way down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. ("PrrFan18n") |
