Here is the sixth of six original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. Shown here is the fireman's view of Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6700, an M-1B (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as an M-1A during March of 1930, rebuilt in Juniata as an M-1B in March of 1944, and retired in June of 1957 after 27 years of faithful service. This is the first M-1A ever produced. Parked on the next track to the right are two deadlined Class T-1 (4-4-4-4) "Duplex" steam locomotives. |
