| Here is an original photo by Douglas C. Jones that was taken just East of the Coaling Tipple in East Altoona, Pennsylvania, c. 1957. In the center ~ taking a spin on the East Altoona Turntable ~ is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #6847, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during September of 1926 and retired in May of 1957. Visible at the left is the front end of engine #6831, an M-1 (4-8-2) "Mountain" built by Baldwin in September of 1926 and retired in August of 1955. The shadow in the foreground is cast by the massive Tipple. |
