L&N 4-6-2 245
Louisville & Nashville locomotive 245 was about to cross Poydras Street as it rolled along the Mississippi River in New Orleans. The train was on its way from the L&N station at the foot of Canal Street, where the passengers got off, to Julia Street Yard, where the train would be turned and serviced. The 245 was the last of six K-5 class light Pacifics (240-245) assigned to the L&N by the United States Railroad Administration during the First World War. It had been built by the American Locomotive Co.’s Richmond Works in 1919 and was retired on 22 June 1954.
