Here is page five of a seven-page cover article by David P. Morgan entitled "Straight Talk From The Pennsy." It was published originally in the July 1955 issue of "Trains" magazine, page 18. Shown here are two Pennsylvania Railroad steam locomotives pushing a mixed-cargo freight train around the Horseshoe Curve and up the Allegheny Mountains to Gallitzin and points West. The leading engine is #4543, an I-1SA (2-10-0) "Decapod" built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works during August of 1923 and retired in August of 1959 after 36 years of faithful service. Also visible is PRR N-5 cabin car #477747. Photo taken by Fred McLeod on Monday, 24 October 1949. |
