Long before a GP9 carried the number 604, this steamer had the honor. Built by Alco-Schenectady in December of 1915 as CNW 4-6-2 Pacific #1604, the loco served 37 years before being renumbered in 1952 to CNW 604 as seen in this photo. No final disposition date could be found for the loco. Specs - serial #55534, class E, 75" drivers, 185 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine wt of 261,000 lb, tractive effort of 36,700 lb.
