CRIP RS3 #490 - Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific
Like a true Alco switcher, this RS3 is smoking like a steam loco wanna-be. Built in November of 1951, its primary duty was commuter service in the Chicago area. Note the dual side doors on these carbon-steel Pullman commuter cars. They had the unfortunate nickname of "cattle cars" primarily for the ability to pack in a large numbers of commuters like the namesake side door cattle cars used to do. No date, location or photographer was given for the photo so approximates were used.
