And an extra

Description:  Along with the two Alcos and SD, there was this silver painted car. I was not able to get close enough to see it in detail, but it looked like some kind of MOW car, judging by the window in the end.

Rare unit, now an organ donor
Title:  Rare unit, now an organ donor
Description:  My wife had an appointment in Springdale recently, so while she was taking care of that, I drove over to the A&M to see what was up. This T 6 was outside the shop. There were only 55 of these built, 40 of them going to N&W. Arkansas & Missouri has four. Sad to see this one is no longer in service, but it will help keep the others running-see comment below.

Been wanting to do this shot for a long time
Title:  Been wanting to do this shot for a long time
Description:  The ex Frisco station at Fayetteville is nicely kept, and is home to several non rail businesses-a Chipotle among them-just off Dickson St. I was farther uptown, having just finished lunch at Mermaids, when I heard a horn on a southbound. I beat feet for the station, thinking I might catch this train with a little luck. The railfan gods were smiling, as the crew had "gone to beans" as it were, in this case, Chipotle carry out. I got him going past the station with a pair of Alcos and ten car.

Right time
Title:  Right time
Description:  We were in Springdale, headed up to Rogers, and decided to take US 71B, the main drag through town. When we got to Randall Wobbe Rd, we decided to take a short detour to see if there was any action at the A&M yard. The local was just backing over the crossing as we pulled up, catching the train shoving a short cut of cars into a siding.

"New" power
Title:  "New" power
Description:  We were returning from a trip to Ohio, and came through Monett in the early afternoon. Despite the dismal weather, we decided to take a ride downtown to see if the Monett Turn was there. Turned out it was, and we got a few shots. To my surprise, this ex KCS SD70ACe, from the first order, had moved over to its neighbor, and is now A&M 73, still in its original colors. As much as I enjoy the Belle scheme, I was glad this one was trailing. Note the switch stand with the "D" on it, denoting a derail.

Dogs breakfast
Title:  Dogs breakfast
Description:  I often used this term referring to some of the unmatched consists on the D&H, especially in the Guilford era, when the power almost never matched-not that the D&H was known for having any two units in a consist match. The A&M usually put together a good looking consist-not that it was essential to operations, but it did put a good image out to anyone seeing one of their trains. The SD 70s sported a new scheme when they came on line. It looks like A&M 71 is awaiting a date in the paint booth, as it appears to be in primer here. Undecorated units run just as well as nicely painted ones!!

Working the yard
Title:  Working the yard
Description:  The full consist switches its train prior to heading south to Springdale Ark. We had other things to do, and following the train wasnt in the cards today. The weather was dismal, rain on and off, and, as you can see, heavy overcast. On a sunny day, not taking chase would have been a much harder choice. There are still a good number of Alcos on the roster, serving on locals around the railroad, mostly in northwest Arkansas and the Fort Smith area, as well as the excursions, which remain popular.
