NP 24617
Title:  NP 24617
Description:  How does a boxcar from the Northern Pacific Railway end up in the middle of rural Pennsylvania? Back in 1972, this car had been brought to the New Albany station, north of this location on the Lehigh Valley State Line & Sullivan Branch, for a customer in town. While it was still parked in New Albany, a flood from Hurricane Agnes washed out the tracks. The Lehigh Valley Railroad chose not to repair the line as the branch wasn't all that profitable and the car became stranded. It stood in place next to the station until 2009 when it was acquired by a private party and moved south by truck to serve as a storage unit at this lumber company.

Description:  Built in 1902 for the Lehigh Valley Railroad, this station was once the sight of the Tioga Transportation Museum, opened in 1975 as a museum with steam operations using an small 0-4-0T on a small siding adjacent to the depot commencing in 1979. It was in this location, and this small organization, that today's Tioga Central Railroad got its start. Today the Tioga Central Railroad is based in Wellsboro, PA under the operation of G&W owned Wellsboro & Corning Railroad. The small 0-4-0T is under the care of Rochester & Genesee Valley Railroad Museum of Rush, NY, which is currently restoring her back to operation.
