Album Info:Since liberalisation of the Swedish railway market in 2001, new operators took up business in Sweden. The passenger market became divided into two markets: The remains of the Swedisch state operator SJ covers the mainlines and local and commuter operators are privat or community owned. In the cargo market Green Cargo, the former SJ cargo division, became under the umbrella of the finance department. New privat and other state owned operators took up business oportunities in the industrie, forest and trade market through winning more and more contracts. A four day trip brought me around the southern part of Sweden. Information by Wikipedia and many Swedish company mentioned and other sources, Newest pictures are first, rest is grouped by class and operator.

1260 and 1307- Green Cargo, Sweden
Title:  1260 and 1307- Green Cargo, Sweden
Description:  1260: The Rm class is a rather rare species of the Rc-family, six units were built only. The locomotives were built by ASEA in 1977. The difference is smaller wheels giving higher pulling force, but lower maximum speed. They were used in triple-unit configuration on Malmbanan as supplements to Dm3-units, but later moved to other parts of the Swedish rail network after the transport needs on Malmbanan were reduced. When originally used to haul iron ore they were ballasted, fitted with SA3 couplings and additional set of brakes, but all these modifications were removed when the locomotives were put in ordinary freight operation. In the 1990s they were repainted from orange to blue.

1037 - Green Cargo, Sweden
Title:  1037 - Green Cargo, Sweden
Description:  This locomotive had a unique accident in Hallsberg 2002: The loc driver parked a 1258 t freight consist at the yard, decoubled and moved to his parking position. The installed brakebar could not keep the train in place on a steep part of the yard. The train soon became a runaway train and followed the loc over 2.5 km / 1.5 miles. The driver saw what happens and tried to brake the train down with his engine, but he had no chance against the over 1200 t. So he jumped off, just before his Rc2 with the full load behind crashed into 5 other, parked Rc units with 44 kph / 27.5 mph. His cabin, opposite site in photo, was fully smashed in. Luckely he was out and unhurt. Accident cost was about $ 13 Mio. and it took two weeks to clear the site. 2004 was the damaged locomotive in Örebro, still awaiting its final fate and it seems, for parting out by TABAG, came finally to Kristinehamn. Maybe, now you can buy the remaining pieces as your next garden shelter. More info about the accident in english: search for " www.havkom.se/.../news/rj2003_01eSummary.pdf ", or detailed in Swedish " www.havkom.se/virtupload/news/rj2003_01.pdf ".
