Album Info:Here are six successive original photos that I took at the Passenger Station in Larchmont, New York, on 29 August 1984. Most of them depict the installation of "ribbon rail" along this stretch of track between New York City and Boston.

Description:  Ribbon. Here is the third of six successive original photos that I took at the Passenger Station in Larchmont, New York, on 29 August 1984. Prominent here is Amtrak engine #915, an AEM7 built by GM-EMD in January of 1981 and rated at 7,000 horsepower. In this context, it's pulling a five-car passenger train out of Pennsylvania Station in New York City to Stamford, New Haven, and Boston. This locomotive is presently on display at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania in Strasburg.

Larchmont is twenty railroad miles from New York's Pennsylvania Station, but only 18.5 miles from Metro-North's Grand Central Terminal.

Shown here are some of the men and machines that are engaged in installing "ribbon rail" on this stretch of track. Note the bridge plate at the far left; it's used by passengers to exit and board passenger trains while Track 3 is out of service. The parking lot above the Station's platform also serves as a tunnel over six lanes of Interstate Highway 95.
