Here are two dozen or so original photos that I took of Pennsylvania Railroad trains in or near Tipton, Pennsylvania, from 1963 through 1967. This particular "Tipton" is located just West of Tyrone on US Route 220. These color slides are presented in the order that I took them. They are pulling an 111-car eastbound coal train along with N-8 caboose #478178.

All were bsilt by EMD. #9862 is an EFP-15 built in 1952 and rated at 1,500 horsepower. #7231 and #7262 are EFS-17M's built in 1959 and rated at 1,750 horsepower each. They are passing over the grade crossing in Tipton on their way to the Enola Yards with a mixed-cargo freight train.

They are about to pass over the grade crossing in Tipton with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way to Altoona for a climb up the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Gallitzin and points West.

Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #5793, an unidentified E-8 unit, and #5881. All were built by EMD. #5793 is an EP-22 built in June of 1952 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #5881 is an EP-20 built in April of 1949 and rated at 2,000 horsepower. They have just recently departed the Altoona Station with an 18-car passenger train, and are now heading to Harrisburg and points East.
